In the past, where did humans tend to settle and why?

Humans mostly settled in places where there was a lot of rain, so they could farm. In China for example, people tended to settle in the east, because there they had a lot of rain, so people could farm. Some people were very successful, so they had people working for them. Because they were  free, they had time to try other things, like pottery, weaving, and many other things. There were also fewer people in the places where there was fewer rain because of farming. So as you can see people tended to settle in places where there was more rain, because there it was easier for farming.

Two Countries Project

In class we were working on our first project of the year. We were told to chose two countries which we would study. One had to be where we live or lived, and the other where I would like to visit or live. I chose Serbia and Austria. I chose Serbia since I lived there since I was born. And I chose Austria since I have many cousins there and I want to live there.

Historical Method

First of all, historians gather a verity of sources. These sources are called primary and secondary sources. Primary sources are ones that were written during the time of that event, while secondary sources are ones that were written after the event. After that, historians would categorized their sources into written and non written sources. Written sources are ones that are written down like for example documents, speeches, letters and many more. Non-written sources are ones that aren't written down. There are only 5 big examples of these, which are artifacts, monuments, tombs, oral traditions and fossils. As they finish that part, they need to evaluate  their sources, with the following questions:
  • who
  • what
  • where
  • when
  • why
When they finish that step, they interpret their information. With those steps historians can make theories, and sometimes even facts. Then they go to other historians and share their findings and theories.

What is History and Why do we Study it?

History is important information from the past. History can also be past events, such as people, ideas, things... Learning about our ancestors can also be history. We learn History to see patterns or trends. It could also help us so we can learn from mistakes and not repeat them. By studying history, we can see how the past has changed. We learn more about our earth, culture, global awareness (to avoid conflict, lead to greater peace)... But most importantly we learnt about ourselves.
